The head is drop forged from 45# carbon steel and heat-treated for hardness and toughness, so it takes repeated hard blows on metal without chipping or deforming. The finely polished finish gives it a clean look and helps resist rust.

Each head has two working faces:

• Flat face: for striking punches, cold chisels, and pins, and for general hammering
• Rounded ball pein: for peening rivets, rounding edges, and shaping and smoothing metal
